So you thought that Deepika Padukone’s south Indian accent in Chennai Express was cute? And were looking forward to hearing more of that in her next film Kochadaiiyaan — The Legend with Rajinikanth? Then you are in for disappointment.

Although Bangalore  girl Deepika knows Kannada, she is not familiar with Tamil therefore,  her voice in the film has been dubbed by Savitha Reddy. Will her voice work for Dips? Says an insider, “Though Savitha’s voice  is different from Deepika’s, there was no choice but to get a dubbing artiste to capture the nuances. In the past Savitha has dubbed for Hindi film actresses like Genelia Deshmukh and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. She was was first heard as the voice of Ash’s in Jeans.”

Director Soundarya Rajinikanth Ashwin says, “Savitha was the perfect choice for Deepika’s Tamil dubbing. She has a very versatile tone to her voice and she is adept in tuning her chords to elicit the desired performance. Whether Deepika’s character has to ooze grace and elegance, or dramatic prowess and zest, Savitha is a perfect performer. She was totally in sync with what I required from character and the emotion and impact I wanted to create.”

Kochadaiiyaan will see Rajinikanth cast as the archetypal superhero in the epic dramatisation of good versus evil. He performs a double role with Deepika being paired opposite the younger character.
