Supermodel Cara Delevingne has opened up about her battle with depression, saying she never really quit modelling, instead she just took a break.

After some time off, the 23-year-old is now back in front of the camera, as the face of the new Saint Laurent campaign in a stunning series of black and white shots by designer Hedi Slimane.

"Can we just set the record straight. I never said I was quitting modelling. I do not blame the fashion industry for anything. I suffer from depression and was a model during a particularly rough patch of self-hatred," she said.

"I am so lucky for the work I get to do but I used to work to try and escape and just ended up completely exhausting myself. I am focusing on filming and trying to learn how to not pick apart my every flaw. I am really good at that. Okay.. Rant over. Just wanted to clarify and word vomit a little."

Delevingne then posted an inspirational quote which read, "My brother told me a joke, I laughed to tears. He told me the same joke again and I laughed but not as hard. He kept repeating the joke and I stopped laughing."
