All eyes are set on Tubelight -  Kabir Khan’s third and most expensive film with Salman Khan. An anti-war saga about two brothers caught in the Indo-China war of 1962, Tubelight is  a feast of firsts for Salman fans. But will Tubelight be able to match up to the expectations that Bajrangi Bhaijaan managed to surpass? Will it do better business at the box office?

Before that, let's analyse a few things -

This is the first Kabir Khan film that is not original. It is based on an unsuccessful American film Little Boy. But its emotional plea against war has a universal resonance that is bound to be effective in any language.

Real-life brothers Salman and Sohail Khan play brothers for the first time. They were earlier seen as squabbling neighbours fighting for Katrina Kaif’s attention in David Dhawan’s Maine Pyar Kyon Kiya. This is Salman Khan’s fourth big film where he shares more screen time with the child actor than his female costar. It happened for the first time in Jab Pyar Kissise Hota Hai (where he had more playing-time with the child actor Aditya Narayan than Twinkle Khanna), Partner (where Master Ali Haji had more time with Salman than Lara Dutta), more recently Bajrangi Bhaijaan and now Tubelight.

Salman plays the simpleton with a heart of gold all over again. How different is his character from Bajrangi Bhaijaan. “Very,” says director Kabir Khan. “Just wait and see.” We believe. Director Kabir Khan says  he’s too close to both the films to be objective. “Since I am the person closest to Tubelight I can’t say if it has turned out as good or better than Bajrangi Bhaijaan. But yes, I’m equally happy with both films.”

Trade analyst Atul Mohan is all charged-up about Tubelight.  “Tubelight looks to be the  biggest one from Salman Khan. The successful combination of Salman and Kabir is creating new records with each film together. The release plan is the widest ever for a Hindi movie. The ticket-pricing strategy is similar to Dangal and Baahubali. Multiplexes are alloting over 90% of screens to the film. Every screen wants this film. No major release during next week will also be beneficial. Everything looks set as of now and all depends how stronger the content is to create bigger boxoffice records.”

However  film critic Raja Sen would like to sound a note of caution. “I think Tubelight may be the awakening that Salman Khan doesn’t rule the box-office anymore.” We will know who's right in a day's time!
