One of India's best-known music composers and the one who introduced us to bling, Bappi Lahiri celebrates his 65th birthday on November 27. Though people have mostly associated his music with being 'loud' or of the 'disco-type', the man has also created some equally good soothing compositions.

Here are five of his hit songs—

'I am a disco dancer' (Disco Dancer, 1982)

'I am a Disco dancer' is a song that shot Mithun Chakraborty to fame. With interesting beats accompanied by the enchanting voice of Vijay Benedict, who made his singing debut in Bollywood with this song, Bappi Da gave us a song that still has people grooving on the dance floor.

'Yaar Bina Chain Kahan Re' (Saheb, 1985)

A melodious song with a fast rhythm, 'Yaar Bina Chain Kahan Re' was filmed on Anil Kapoor and Amrita Singh. The song never fails to take us down the memory lane. While attempts have been made to copy or re-use the song in many films, nothing has ever been able to match the simplicity and charm of the original. Kudos to Bappi Da!

'Mujhe Naulakka Mangade' (Sharaabi, 1984)

This song is my personal favourite. The jugalbandi between Asha Bhosle and Kishore Kumar need no words of description and who can forget the dazzling Jaya Pradha and perfectionist Amitabh Bachchan on screen. Bappi Lahiri does a fabulous job of balancing the high notes and shayaris in this classic.

'Raat Baaki' (Namak Halal, 1982)

Who would have thought a naughty and sensuous song like this could also include disco beats? Only Bappi da could have made this song. Picturised on the ever-charming Shashi Kapoor and the beautiful Parveen Babi, the song is unforgettable. It still manages to outshine the Bollywood's long list of cabaret songs.

'Bombai Nagariya' (Taxi No.9211, 2006)

You might have expected the hit song 'Ooh la la' to be featured in this list, but the real winner for me is this composition from Vishal-Shekhar camp. A perfectly realistic manifestation of what the dream city is, Bappi Lahiri adds his own charm to this song. It is difficult to imagine anyone else singing it.

Wishing the 'Disco King' a very happy birthday!
