Popular Malayalam actor Dileep has now been remanded to 14 day judicial custody by a court in Angamly. The actor was arrested in connection with the abduction and assault case of a South Indian actress and brought to the magistrate's house amid tight police security on Tuesday.  After completing  all the formalities, the magistrate remanded him to judicial custody and Dileep was later shifted to jail in his hometown, Aluva.

Hundreds of protestors raised slogans against the actor at the magistrate's house and even Aluva sub jail. The actor's lawyer,K Ramkumar said that a bail application has been moved in the court and is likely to be heard on Wednesday.

On February 17, the popular actress, who has also worked in Tamil and Telugu films, was abducted and allegedly molested inside her car for two hours at a busy area in Kochi by the accused, who had forced their way into the vehicle.

Kerala Police chief Loknath Behra said Dileep was arrested based on evidence police gathered during the process of investigation into the case. "Dileep has been arrested. We are questioning him. Arrest is a process of investigation," he told reporters. He said no other person has been taken into custody in connection with the case. Behera, however, refused to share further details. Police said Dileep has been taken to Aluva police club for questioning.

Meanwhile, the Congress party in Kerala demanded a public apology from Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in the backdrop of actor Dileep's arrest in the abduction and assault case of a Malayalam actress last year. In a statement here, Leader of Opposition in the Kerala Assembly Ramesh Chennithala said Vijayan had stated during the initial stage of the probe that there was no conspiracy angle in the case and it was a "figment of imagination" of the prime accused, 'Pulsar' Suni.

The Congress leader alleged that this statement of the chief minister had "affected" the investigation.Kerala Congress chief M M Hassan said the chief minister, who also holds the home portfolio, should relinquish it. Vijayan had, from the beginning, insisted that there was no conspiracy in the case, he said in a statement.
