As the University of Mumbai still struggles to get its act together for onscreen evaluation, lakhs of students whose results are still pending have a lot at stake — offers from some of the top international universities, and even jobs.

With the evaluation process marred by several delays coupled with the uncertainty over the result declaration, students are now running from pillar to post to get an answer to the question the university dreads — When will the results be out?

“My daughter appeared for BSc from University of Mumbai and is awaiting her Semester 6 results. She has cleared the entrance exam for MSc in Microbiology at MS University in Baroda, but lost her seat as she could not produce her mark sheet before the deadline due to delayed results. The university didn’t even provide a letter for the students to at least secure provisional admissions,” said a parent.

Students said that despite writing to university officials on several occasions, even on social media, they received no response.

Several students who have received international offers are now worried they will lose their admissions owing to the delay, and others fear they won’t get jobs. DNA spoke to a few such students to understand their ordeal.

Akhil has been selected for an MSc programme at LSE which is set to begin in September 2017. While the application process requires him to submit his final year result, he has requested the authorities to process his application with his earlier marks. “The admission process has started, but not having my final result could lead to cancellation of the admission,” he added.
