Two persons have been arrested for duping people by posing as courier agents in west Delhi's Kirti Nagar area. The duo would replace the consignments with stone slabs and keep the original consignment with them.

According to the police, the accused have been identified as Suraj, 20, and Yoginder, 28. The duo would pose as agents of a courier company and carry bonafide record books in order to dupe people.

The police were informed about the incident by a man identified as Sanjeev Bhatia, who stated that he had ordered 63 high-end mobile handsets, but when he received the delivery, he found only bricks and stones in the boxes.

"He booked the consignment through supreme express courier and cargo in Jaipur. Yogendra, an authorised representative of the company, passed on the consignment through the New Delhi office. When the said goods were not delivered, he realised that he had been duped by the courier company," a senior police officer said.

A case was then registered. During the investigation, it was revealed that the authorised agent was out of reach. Technical surveillance led the police to his location in Old Delhi's Chandni Chowk area. Police carried out massive door-to-door search for the accused persons and finally manged to apprehend Yogendra and his co-accused Suraj. On their instance, 52 mobile handsets were recovered from a godown in west Delhi.

The police suspect the involvement of more persons in the racket and are investigating as to how these persons would procure the sets and later go underground.
