Two arrested by Special Cell of Delhi Police for illegal supply of arms

According to the police, the accused have been identified as Sameer (25) and Furkan (45), who were arrested in a joint operation with the help of the Crime Branch of Meerut after an exchange of fire at about 11 pm.

The Special Cell of Delhi Police along with the Uttar Pradesh police have arrested two rewarded arms suppliers following an encounter in Meerut area of Uttar Pradesh on Monday night. Police said that the two carried a reward of Rs 1.25 lakh each and were involved in several cases of robbery, dacoity, attempt to murder, assault on police, rioting. One of the two received bullet injury on his leg during the encounter and is undergoing treatment.

According to the police, the accused have been identified as Sameer (25) and Furkan (45), who were arrested in a joint operation with the help of the Crime Branch of Meerut after an exchange of fire at about 11 pm.

"Following a tip off, a trap was laid near Suhel Garden in Meerut where two persons arrived and at the instance of the informer, the duo were signalled to stop however they opened fire at the raiding team. While in retaliation, the team fired at them. During the encounter over a dozen rounds were fired. In which Samir received bullet injury in his left leg," said DCP (Special cell) PS Kushwah.

Police said that One semi-automatic pistol of .32 with three live cartridges was recovered from Samir and a pistol with two live cartridges was recovered from Furkan.

"Samir was rushed to the hospital while during interrogation Furkan disclosed that he used to run illegal firearms manufacturing unit in a house in Meerut where he had hired experts of arms manufacturing from Munger, Bihar," said Kushwah.

Police said that both the arrested accused persons have been found previously arrested in many cases of arms act, robbery, dacoity, attempt to murder, assault on police, rioting, criminal intimidation in UP and Delhi. Samir was arrested in seven such cases and Furkan was previously involved in four criminal cases.

Police are not investigating their network of buyers and peddlers and they would be sent to jail soon.

In its crackdown against the illegal arms syndicate Special Cell were working on various modules of illegal arms who were supplying in Delhi from Meerut (UP), Munger (Bihar) and Dhar, Burhanpur, Sendhwa, Khandwa (MP).

In October last month the sleuths arrested five arms suppliers and recovered 84 semi-automatic pistols and 40 spare magazines with many live cartridges, parts of pistols, other raw material and apparatus. 
However the kingpin Furkan who was running an illegal arms manufacturing unit in a house in Meerut and his associates sneaked.
