Hundreds of Rajput Uthan Sabha members, a local output of Gautam Budh Nagar, protested and raised slogans against the release of movie 'Padmaavat' and its director Sanjay Leela Bhansali outside the Great India Place (GIP) mall on Sunday afternoon.

The protesters demanded a ban on the release of the movie. The members also threatened that they won't be responsible for any violence that takes place as part of the backlash if the movie releases.

"The film has already been banned in three states, so even Uttar Pradesh government should ban it. If the film is released here, it will go down as a black day as it will be an insult to the Rajput pride. We shall not be held responsible for any destructive fallout if the movie is released," said Dheeraj Singh, district president of Rajput Uthan Sabha.

Members of the outfit also met the representatives of the GIP's Carnival Cinemas and handed over a list of demands.

"The outfit has given us their list of demands and we would be forwarding them to our senior executives, who would take the final call on whether the film is to be screened at the mall or not. It is a decision that will be taken by our head office," said Prashant, a representative of the GIP's Carnival Cinemas.

The protesters carried banners and shouted slogans, blocked the service lane near GIP mall and Garden Galleria, which led to traffic jams.

While the heads of the protesting outfit said they would stay within the law, many others said they would do every possible thing to make sure that the movie does not hit the cinemas.

Later, police reached the spot and deputed six police control room vans and around 50 cops to check law and order at the intersection.

"We had deployed extra police force to ensure that the protest remained peaceful and no violence occurs. The protest lasted for an hour and later they themselves cleared the roads," said Arun Kumar Singh, Superintendent of Police (City), Gautam Budh Nagar.

After so many controversies, 'Padmavati', which was retitled as 'Padmavat' and then 'Padmaavat', is scheduled to release on January 25.
