A policeman in North-East Delhi's Khajuri Khas was thrashed by the public when he had gone to attend to a PCR call on Wednesday. A video of the incident went viral following which a case was registered and two persons were arrested. Police officials are analysing the video in order to identify other accused.

On Wednesday morning, a quarrel began after two cars grazed past each other in the Khajuri Khas area. A call was made to the Police Control Room. When the cops reached the spot, both the parties were already arguing. Seeing the commotion, a crowd gathered around the cops. According to the policeman, some of the people in the crowd started to instigate that the policeman was taking sides. As the policeman tried to control the crowd, the numbers grew and started targeting him.

The footage shot by a bystander shows the cop trying to move away and reach the PCR van, but is blocked by a young boy wearing a blue shirt. As he tried to move past him, a woman is seen hitting him with a slipper which soon propels others to punch and slap him.

In the video, it could be seen that the crowd followed the cop and continues to hit him until his colleagues intervene and drive him away. The identified people have been booked under IPC sections of obstructing a public servant from performing his duties (186), causing hurt (323), causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty (332), assaulting a public servant (353) and common intentions (34). The police teams are in the process of identifying more people and arrest them.
