Delhi Police have arrested the gang leader of Madrasi robbers from South East Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar area, on late Friday night. Police said the 21-year-old gangster was fascinated by the way gangsters are portrayed in the movies and wanted to rule the crime world. As a teenager he started indulging in petty crime.
According to the police, the accused has been identified as Mani Kandan (21), a resident of Madrasi Camp in Jal Vihar area of Delhi, who had two cases of robbery registered against him in which he robbed mobile phones and cash of the victims near Jal Vihar, Lajpat Nagar. He had been absconding since February. “On February 8, the accused Kandan along with his two associates namely Kumar and a Juvenile planned to rob people to earn quick money and in single day they committed two robberies and robbed two mobile phones and Rs 3,300 in cash. Kumar and juvenile were arrested and apprehended respectively on the same day but Kandan managed to flee away,” said Chinmoy Biswal, deputy commissioner of police(south-east).
Non-Bailable Warrant and Proclaimed Offender (PO) proceedings were issued against him by the Saket Court. On Friday night, during patrolling police gathered information about the accused and the information was further developed and he was arrested from Jal Vihar Bus Terminal.
“During interrogation, he disclosed that in the early age got addicted to alcohol and in order to meet his needs he started petty thefts. Later he desired to rule the crime world and loved himself to be called as ‘Don’ for which he roped in young boys in his gang and he became Don of his locality,” said Biswal. He further disclosed that he had fled to Chennai to evade arrest.
