“A revolution has begun. No private hospital will now harass any patient for money,” said Jayant Singh, father of seven-year-old Adya Singh who was` declared dead on September 15 at Fortis Gurugram.

In  the latest development, a committee formed by the Haryana Government has found criminal negligence on the part of the hospital, causing the death of a seven-year-old girl suffering from dengue.

The decision by the government has come as a relief to the parents who have been running from pillar to post to get justice for their daughter. “We are extremely thankful to the government for setting up an example for the other private hospitals. The money would not have mattered if our baby was discharged with good health. They treated our daughter as a money minting machine,” Singh said.

The family is now planning to register and FIR against the hospital. “I was just waiting for the government to come out with their report. We will now file an FIR against the hospital and will take this matter to the court,” he said.

On August 28, 2017, Adya was admitted to Rockland Hospital in Dwarka with a high temperature. The doctors there treated her like any other dengue patient and later after two days referred her to Fortis, Gurugram.

On August 31, Adya was admitted to Fortis and was admitted there for the next 14 days. Adya was diagnosed with dengue shock syndrome and she never survived it. The family was given a bill of Rs 16 lakh for 14 days. Union Health Minister JP Nadda took cognisance of the matter and reached out to the family.
