With the monsoon hitting the national Capital, Lieutenant Governor (L-G) Anil Baijal chaired a review meeting at the Raj Niwas directing the concerned agencies to intensify vector-control measures.
Baijal has directed distribution of Information, Education and Communication (IEC) material by the local bodies through Domestic Breeding Checkers (DBCs) for public awareness at the time of their visit to the households for checking and eliminating all possible breeding sites.
As per the official data, while dengue cases swooped from 54 cases in 2017 to 28 in 2018, those of malaria came down to 40 from 70. Witnessing a massive drop, chikungunya plummeted the most from whopping 107 cases in 2017 to 14 this year.
The L-G has also called for an increased participation of residential welfare associations (RWAs), students and the general public to combat the problem. He also stressed upon community awareness activities in identified high-risk wards and underprivileged areas, unauthorised colonies, JJ clusters, construction sites, among others. "Ensure coordination with neighbouring states for effective preparedness to tackle vector-borne diseases. Community awareness activities by means of IEC must continue on a war-footing level, a statement from the L-G house stated.
In the directives, Baijal has also called for regular review meetings at the level of district magistrates with all stakeholders to review the situation in their respective districts. The L-G further mentioned that all offices/institutes should designate a nodal officer responsible to carry out vector-borne control related activities and his name and contact details must be detailed at some prominent sites in the offices/institutes.
