In a move that could lead to another clash between the Public Works Department (PWD) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, Delhi Environment Minister Imran Hussain may soon have to vacate his bungalow at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg as the plot has been allotted for a Family Court.

A layout of the plan has been prepared by the PWD and sent to the Buildings Committee of the Delhi High Court.

According to sources, the plot — Bungalow No. 217, Rouse Avenue — was allocated to the Delhi High Court for a Family Court around seven to eight years back. But the court authorities were trying for a land adjacent to a district court in New Delhi.

The PWD has prepared a layout and sent it to the concerned officials for further approval.

"In a meeting held last month, it was decided that the plot will be used for a Family Court only. A meeting was held last month with senior officials to decide the layout of the court. The PWD has prepared a layout and sent it to the Buildings Committee of Delhi High Court," said a senior PWD official.

"Once the layout is approved by the Buildings Committee, it will be sent to the New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) and then the fire department for approval. A tender will be then floated," added the official.

Hussain who holds important portfolios like Environment and Forest and Food and Supplies will be given an alternate accommodation. All other ministers are either residing in Raj Niwas Marg or in Flag Staff Road, Civil Lines.

"We cannot comment on the issue till the time we see the proposal," said a Delhi government spokesperson.

And analysis

AAP leaders have been under lens for allegedly using government flats without valid sanction.
The move to make the minister give up his residence may lead to infighting within the party, as the minister's supporters may oppose it. This can lead to an embarrassing situation for the party and government.
