A 39-year-old man carrying a live cartridge in Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's Janta Darbar was arrested by the Delhi Police on Tuesday.

A case under appropriate sections of Arms Act was registered by the North district police. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) slammed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and stated that the BJP is hatching a conspiracy to kill the Delhi Chief Minister.

Reacting to the development, the Delhi BJP unit chief said, "If anybody wanted to kill, he would carry a firearm not merely a bullet. It is all a ploy of Arvind Kejriwal to distract attention from failures of his government and he is coming out with these dramatic things quite regularly as elections are nearing"

According to the police the accused have been identified as Mohammad Imran. "Imran worked as a Muajjim (care taker) in Masjid Bawli Wali in Central Delhi's Karol Bagh area. He hails from Loni in Ghaziabad," said Harendra Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, North Delhi.

On Tuesday morning around 11:15 am Imran had reached the residence of the Delhi Chief Minister to meet him in the Janta Darbar. He had come to meet the CM along with 12 other imams and maulvis in connection with increasing the salary of staff working in Delhi Waqf Board.

"During searching and frisking, one live cartridge of .32 bore was recovered from his purse by the security staff deputed at CM's residence," said Singh.

Imran told the police that he is working as a Muajjin (care taker) in Masjid Bawli Wali. Around three months ago he had found the cartridge in the donation box and had decided to throw it in Yamuna river but forgot to do so and kept it with him in his purse.
