"The accused has been identified as Imran, who would commit petty crimes in order to sustain himself. Imran was also a drug addict. He was arrested by the Special Staff of the district," said Ajit Kumar Singla, Deputy Commissioner of Police, North-East.

Imran was arrested from a bus stand in North-East Delhi when he was trying to flee from the Capital. Imran told the police that he is uneducated and a smack addict. Imran met a girl identified as Meena Thapa at a club in Netaji Subhash Place over a year ago. The duo soon fell in love and started living together. According to Imran, his girlfriend was in contact with other men, including some of his friends.

"They often fought with each other on this issue. On March 31 evening, they were alone at home and had a heated argument over the same issue. The argument soon turned ugly and Imran first strangulated her after which he hit a disc stand on her head and bludgeoned her to death," said Singla.

He later fled from the room and was absconding since then.

The police had received a call on March 31 regarding the murder of a woman in a rented accommodation. The police were also told that the woman resided along with her boyfriend who was nowhere to be seen after the murder.
