Students and professors of Jesus Mary College on Thursday protested near Delhi Police Headquarters over the "lack of comprehensive measures" to protect them from hooliganism during Holi. The agitation came after reports of students of Delhi University's Lady Shree Ram College for Women being attacked with semen-filled balloons surfaced a few days ago.

The group of protesters also submitted a memorandum to the commissioner of police, demanding adequate security. "We are approaching you with a strong appeal for adequate policing and patrolling and for more pro-active measures," it read.

The group of students and teachers raised slogans against the police for failing to provide them secure environment and lack of initiatives taken by them to create awareness. "A lot of harassment happens on buses and we are shocked to find that as a run up to Holi, the proposed marshals in DTC buses are missing. No police teams have been interacting with women students. There is also no visible campaign by the Delhi Police to caution people against such behaviour," said Maya John, the college professor.

On Wednesday, students of Delhi University's Lady Shree Ram College for Women alleged being victims of balloon-flinging incidents. A BA history student of the college claimed being hit by "semen-flinging" at the Old Double Storey area near Amar Colony. Five days ago, another student of the same college complained of similar harassment, and posted her ordeal on social media.

Meanwhile, Delhi Commission of Women (DCW) sent a notice to the police commissioner, urging him to ensure adequate deployment of police on ground, as well as to constitute an urgent task force to co-ordinate prevention and redressal of crimes against women on Holi. DCW chief Swati Maliwal said that the commission will station mobile Helpline vans and ensure operation of its 181 Women Helpline today.
