In a change of strategy, the Delhi government is now focusing all its energies on the Capital. Earlier, during the recently held state elections, it was felt that the AAP government had been ignoring the national Capital and Delhiites.

But now, all that seems to have changed, as senior party leaders are making rigorous efforts to reconnect with the people of Delhi. Be it organising public meets or taking early morning meetings, the AAP government is doing its best to reach out to Delhiites.

“After facing the heat in MCD elections, the government is again taking an interest in interacting with the general public. The focus has once again been shifted to fulfilling the needs of the people,” said a senior Delhi government official.

In the last two weeks from May-end, the government has been seen making large-scale efforts to connect with the public. Most ministers, including Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, are again organising public meetings in their respective residential areas.

“We felt that we are missing the public connect. That is why we have asked the officials to be in office from 10-11 am to meet the public. There will be no restrictions and the people can share their grievances with the public servants,” Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia had earlier been quoted as saying.

The first public meeting witnessed more than 750 people coming to Kejriwal in an hour talking about various issues like power, water, medicines and land related issues. Around 200 people came to meet Sisodia in his meeting.

Also, in a first-of-its-kind initiative, the government organised Facebook Live to interact with the public on important issues. Sisodia, along with some officials, discussed the GST bill for an hour on Friday on the medium. The activity will be repeated in July.

On the offline front, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been visiting state government hospitals, and directly asking the public about their experience there. Post his visits, a few officials have been pulled up after patients and their kin complained about lack of facilities.

Meanwhile, Sisodia has made some surprise visits to anganwadis to check the ground report. The Delhi Deputy Chief Minister conducted door-to-door visits to verify the names of the students mentioned on the list.

“The more we meet them, the better our government will function. Nothing can be done by just sitting in offices,” said a Delhi government official.
