A 47-year-old former state-level shooter allegedly shot at her mother and brother in south Delhi's Defence Colony area, early on Friday. The police said the woman was in an inebriated state when she opened fire. She has also been taking medicines for depression for some time now, they added.

According to police, the neighbours heard three gunshots around 1 am and called up the Police Control Room. When a police team reached C Block in Defence Colony, they found that the accused, identified as Sangeeta Singh, had shot at her brother Harisharan and her mother on the second floor of the residential building.

"As per the primary investigation, Harisharan called Sangeeta for dinner but she did not respond. After repeated requests, she came out of her room, furious, and with a licensed pistol in her hand. She then opened fire on her brother. When their mother tried to intervene, she shot at her as well, twice," a senior police officer said.

The injured were rushed to the AIIMS Trauma Centre, where Harisharan was declared out of danger.

"Sangeeta is a sportsperson and has participated in state-level events. Besides, she used to run an adventure tourism centre at Sohna Road in Gurugram. It has been revealed that for the last one year, she had stopped going for shooting practice or even meeting people. Her father said she was depressed and was on medication. On Thursday night, she had taken her medicines, along with sleeping pills and alcohol, after which she shot at her family members," the police said.

The police also said that a property dispute between Sangeeta and her brother might have led to the depression. This was, however, yet to be ascertained.

DCP (south) Romil Baaniya said a case of attempt to murder has been registered against the woman and she has been detained. "She was medically examined and her statement is being recorded," he said.
