Five people were hospitalised after inhaling toxic gases while they had gone to clean the sewage plant of a prominent five-star hotel in Lutyen's Delhi. All five men are currently battling for their lives as the doctors referred their condition to be critical. It is still unclear if the men were wearing safety equipment like masks or not.

A plumber working for the hotel was accompanying the three employees from a sewage treatment company to an adjoining building of the hotel, where the sewage plant was to be cleaned. However, all four of them were left unconscious because of the toxic gases coming out of the plant situated near Khan Market.

The victims were identified as Nityanand (51), Ravindra (40), Vikram (26), Kamdev Patra (58), Gaurav Sukheja (34). While Nityanand and Vikram are employed with the hotel, other three victims had been working as contractual employees with the sewage treatment company which runs the plant. While four men were expected to clean the plant but seeing them faint, Vikram who works as a security guard with the hotel ran to save them, however, he also fell prey to the toxic gases and is now battling for his life.

The unconscious men were taken to hospitals in the vicinity and later Nityanand, Ravindra and Vikram were referred to Moolchand hospital and others to BLK hospital. The police team is now checking if the employees had gone to check the plant were wearing the masks and other safety equipment.

"All five men are still admitted in hospitals and their condition is said to be critical, however, we have registered a case of culpable homicide against both the hotel and the company handling the sewage treatment plant," said Madhur Verma, Deputy Commissioner of Police, New Delhi District.
