As the Delhi University (DU) wrapped up admissions under the first cut-off list on Thursday, many popular courses will not be available in most sought-after colleges in the second list. The university witnessed "unprecedented" number of admissions under the first cut-off list with more than 10 per cent seats across colleges already been filled.

Even as the process was stalled on Tuesday, the first day of the admission because of technical glitches, the numbers started swelling Wednesday onwards. Despite high cut-offs, colleges remained flooded in the past three days with the university administration having to extend the timing of admissions from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm on Thursday. "By Thursday evening, as many as 11,000 students had been admitted and more than 5,000 admissions were approved by the university," said Maharaj K Pandit, member of the admission committee. Last year, the university had completed only 2,201 admissions under the first list.

Some colleges even received over-admissions. For instance, Hindu College has received 988 admissions against its available 752 seats. "We are yet to know about the category-wise break-up. There are cases of the overflow of a particular category in some courses and other categories are still waiting. St. Stephen's College is yet to announce its admission list. So we will probably witness some withdrawals, as well," said Hindu College Principal Anju Srivastava. The college is expected to witness a marginal drop in cut-offs in the second list and some courses such as Political Science (Hons) might not be available for the general category candidates.

Officials at the Lady Sri Ram College, which has also filled almost half of its available 800 seats by Thursday, said that it's unlikely that a second list would be released for courses such a Psychology (Hons), Economics (Hons), History (Hons) and B.Com (Hons). "We have received an unprecedented rush of aspirants this time," said principal Suman Sharma.

Daulat Ram College also had over-takers in several courses such as Physics (Hons), Economics (Hons), Psychology (Hons) and Chemistry (Hons), officials said. "There will be a considerable drop in the cut-offs of some courses in the second list," said an official. The second list will be released by Sunday evening.
