While summer has arrived early and with it the water crisis, the Delhi government on Wednesday decided to boost water supply and re-cycle the waste water in the national Capital.

The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) is all set to reintroduce the late payment surcharge waiver scheme for government institutions and departments. The water utility is also expected to come up with a summer action plan by April 1.

The key decisions were made during the 137th meeting of the DJB headed by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

The DJB also plans to extend the scheme of providing water to the unauthourised colonies by six months.

"This measure is focused on providing convenience to consumers and the board is encouraging more people to apply for regularisation of domestic unauthorised water connections to bring them into the ambit of its water and sewage network," said a senior DJB official.

The CM also approved the work of laying 200 -1100 mm internal and peripheral sewer line, including Budh Vihar Group of colonies falling under Rithala and Rohini waste water treatment plant (WWTP).

"These projects will benefit around about 6.7 lakh people, thereby improving the environmental, social, and unhygienic conditions of the area," the official said.

The board also approved construction of 52.25 millions litres per day (MPD) Booster Pumping Station at Jhandewalan reservoir to provide equitable water supply with adequate pressure.

"The estimated cost of the project is around Rs 13 crore. The Sewerage Master Plan envisages coverage of the unsewered area, colonies and urban villages," the official said.

BETTER SUPPLY

Meanwhile, to augment the supply of drinking water in Dwarka area, the project of creating new sources of raw water by creating a water body at Dwarka Water Treatment Plant was given a green flag.
