Delhi: Family was going to hometown for son’s head-shaving function

Nothing can be worse than seeing one’s parent being attacked. In this case, the children were witness to their father being attacked and their mother being stabbed to death. The family had planned to leave for their hometown in Etawah on Thursday for the head-shaving function of their only son.

According to deceased’s husband Umesh Dubey, “The kids have been traumatised ever since the incident took place. They can never get the scene off their minds. All my three daughters have been crying since yesterday and I don’t know how to console them.”

The couple, married for 15 years, have four children — three daughters and one son. “After so many years we were blessed with a baby boy. He had recently turned two and we wanted to organise his head-shaving function at our village and were supposed to leave on Thursday afternoon,” Dubey said. The family had gone shopping for the function when the incident happened. 

“I am leaving for my native place and I am not sure if I will return and work here. Life will not be the same for us. Who will take care of my children? If I go to work who will look after them? I feel my objection to something wrongful led them to attack me,” Dubey said.

Dubey had an altercation with the accused barely 10 minutes before the incident as they were inappropriately touching his wife at the local market. They then attacked Dubey and stabbed his wife when she intervened, following which the locals thrashed the duo and handed them over to the police.
