The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has rescued eight Nepali girls from a hotel in Paharganj after it received a tip off from an NGO- KI Nepal. The commission raided the hotel along with some Delhi Police officials on Thursday.

According to the tip off, these girls were being trafficked to gulf countries from the hotel.

DCW Chief Swati Maliwal along with few members and the staff of KI Nepal NGO conducted a raid with the assistance of Delhi Police in the hotel and found these 8 Nepali girls who were rescued.

"These girls have been brought from earthquake affected areas in Nepal and we are told that they will be given jobs in Delhi. However, they were brought to the hotel and were asked to wait there. The hotel owner did not charge them for their stay. Passports of some have been taken away by their agents. After having waited for several days in the hotel with many of them without their passports, they were very concerned and desperate to go back to Nepal but had no means to do so," said a DCW member.

DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal said, "DCW & KI Nepal rescued 8 girls from a hotel in Paharganj who were being trafficked to Gulf and promised jobs in Iraq and Kuwait. The hotel owner and mangement is also involved in the crime. Sadly Delhi is a major transit route for trafficking Nepalese girls 2 Gulf. Urge MHA and Nepal Govt to end this crime."

The DCW chief recently stated that her team has conducted 535 rescue operations across Delhi since 2015, the year when she took charge, and 60 per cent of the women trafficked were from Nepal..
