Bharatiya Janata Party MP Parvesh Sahib Singh on Monday raised the matter of extension of Lal Dora in Delhi villages during the Zero Hour of Parliament. Lal Dora is the red line drawn on maps to delineate village land from agricultural land.

The Lok Sabha MP said that Delhi government was not concerned about the plight of farmers and rural folk. "Farmers have been sitting on a hunger strike at Ghevra Mod for the past 10 days demanding an extension of Lal Dora in their villages. It is their right," he said. "It is very sad to see that villagers in Delhi rural areas have to struggle so much to get an extension of Lal Dora. The Aam Aadmi Party government is not paying any attention to them and is busy with cheap political antics," the BJP leader claimed.

Earlier this month, the Delhi government directed the divisional commissioner to initiate the process of Lal Dora. Revenue minister Kailash Gahlot also asked the officer to submit a report within two weeks pertaining to extension of Lal Dore in all the villages. "It is directed the consolidation proceedings may be commenced in all the villages of Delhi with a clear direction to Consolidation Officers that the housing requirement in villages be accommodated," the minister had instructed.

Deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, on the other hand, said that population in the 360 villages that come under the periphery of Delhi, has increased manifold. Thus, it was imperative and necessary to extend Lal Dora to accommodate the growing demands of a rising population.
