Cops seize heroin worth Rs 12 crore, two arrested

The Special Cell of Delhi Police has arrested two persons for supplying fine quality heroin to foreign nationals in the Capital and the neighbouring states — Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. Heroin worth Rs 12 crore in the international market was recovered from them. Surprisingly the accused men had brought the heroin in the Capital through air.

"Mohammad Jafar and Parvej Saifi reside in Bareilly. The duo had wrapped the drugs in thick layers of carbon papers to avoid detection by scanners installed at the airport. Jafar had created a secret cavity in his bag to deceive the officials. The consignment had to be delivered to an African national," said Sanjeev Yadav, DCP, Special Cell.

The duo revealed that they are members a drug cartel run by Manjum who resides in Manipur. He runs an international drug syndicate from there and procures fine quality heroin from Myanmar and illegally cultivates as well along the border areas. "There is widespread illegal cultivation of opium in bordering areas of Manipur where heroin is prepared but its quality is inferior to heroin brought from Myanmar," added the officer. Till now the accused men had bought around 50 consignments of heroin to the Capital.

The African nationals further send the heroin to European countries and Africa via courier services. Manjum has a widespread business and supplies heroin in NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab. Jafar has been working with Manjum for the last three years.

He has supplied the heroin to various persons of African origin residing in the areas of Vikaspuri, Tilak Nagar, Shahpur, Uttam Nagar. Investigation regarding suspected links of arrested drug suppliers in Pakistan and Bangladesh is also being conducted.
