A number of parents staged a protest outside the school, where a six-year-old girl was raped by an electrician, demanding "strict security measures" for their children, on Friday.

The Class 2 student was raped by the 37-year-old electrician inside the school premises in central Delhi, on Wednesday. The girl was raped while she was returning home. The police has arrested the electrician and a case was registered under POCSO Act on Thursday.

"What is the surety of our child's safety in the school premises? The principal has been on leave for a week. Shouldn't the teachers and vice-principal show more accountability?" a parent said.

Parents said that the school has strict security measures in place for parents to enter the school premises, and but what measures has the school taken for the entry of other people. "Even women have to register their entry before going inside the school, how did a man enter just like that?" asked a parent.

The school principal had been on leave for more than a week. The school authorities tried to pacify the protesting parents and asked the victim's parents to come for a counselling session on Monday. "We had counselled them after they informed us about the incident. It is a very unfortunate incident and we are lending them our support... We also briefed students about the incident and asked them to be cautious. Four women security personnel are permanently deployed at the school gate since ours is a girls," a school representative said.

Even as the school officials said CCTV cameras were installed on the school premises, police said no camera was found at the spot. "No CCTV camera was found at the spot of the incident," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi district) Madhur Verma.

While school authority claimed that the accused, identified as Ram Asre, was not their employee, police said that he had been working with the school for the past one-and-a-half months.

Meanwhile, the NDMC suspended four officials, including the headmistress of the school, and initiated disciplinary proceedings against them. It has also terminated the contract of junior engineer Saurabh Bisht, who was accused's supervisor.

Shocking Figure

According to Delhi Police data, more than two children were raped in the national capital every day in the first four months of this year. Till April 30, 282 cases of child rape were reported as opposed to 278 last year during the same.
