A 45-year-old man allegedly killed his wife before committing suicide by poison in outer Delhi's Baba Haridas Nagar on Thursday. Police said a domestic quarrel led to the murder followed by suicide.

The man, identified as Sanjay Sharma lived with his wife Babli, 42, in a rented accommodation in Baba Haridas Nagar and drove an auto for a living. Their two children live in hostels in Bhopal, police said.

According to the police, primary probe revealed the couple fought frequently over domestic issues. One such quarrel on Tuesday morning turned violent in which Sharma allegedly beat his wife before strangling her to death. He then locked the house and walked away, leaving neighbours worried about the condition of his wife who was earlier heard crying.

Even as one of the neighbours informed the police, Sharma himself reached the local police station and revealed that he had killed his wife. He further left police shocked when he said he had consumed poison out of guilt after killing his wife. He was rushed to a hospital even as another police team visited his home.

When his flat was broken into, Babli was found lying dead near the door. She had multiple injuries on her body, but appeared to have been strangled to death. In the meantime, Sharma too had succumbed to the dose of poison.
