Legislators of the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have been asked to let go of their "common man" look and behave like "MLAs", in order to get recognised in their respective localities.

The instructions have come directly from the party Chief, Arvind Kejriwal, after he received feedback from his legislators following AAP's massive defeat in the Delhi civic polls.

"The legislators have been asked to not roam around in their localities like a common man. They should always be accompanied by three to four volunteers," a senior party official said.

"They have been instructed to wear party trademark caps during their public meetings. It's very important to have a leader-like aura, otherwise no one will recognise them," the official added.

Kejriwal had recently held one-on-one meetings with all his 64 MLAs and discussed their issues. "The feedback received by the CM shows that the work done by the party MLAs could not reach the public. In some localities, people don't even recognise their MLAs," another party official said.

"It's very important that people should know that the road in their locality was constructed by their MLA, not the BJP-ruled municipal corporation. The legislators have also been asked to join social media groups to talk about the work done by them," he added.

The Chief Minister met his partymen in the backdrop of several workers' complaints that the leadership had become inaccessible. "The inaccessibility of the party leadership has forced members to convey their issues through media. So, Kejriwal is doing his best to bring about unity within the party," the official said.
