A 13-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by a neighbour in South-East Delhi's Badarpur area. The incident occurred on January 21 but the matter was reported to the police on Saturday following which the accused was arrested. The mother of the girl told the police that the family was scared as the accused lived just next door and threatened them.
Speaking to DNA, the victim's mother stated that they are thinking of changing their house and looking for other options as it is getting difficult for them to stay here. "No one is saying it directly on the face but I fear the future of my two other children as everyone in the locality is aware of the incident now. Even the building owner has asked us to look for an alternate place," she said.
According to the police, the accused and the victim live in the same building. The mother of the 13-year-old, who studies in Class 7, had gone to her native village when the incident occurred. The victim was alone at her home when the 20-year-old accused entered her house and sexually assaulted her. Her father was also not at home when the incident took place on January 21.
The accused then threatened the girl to not report the incident to anyone or talk about it. The scared girl did not tell anyone about the incident and revealed to her mother only on February 3 following which she informed the police.
"A case under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered. The location of the accused was traced after which he was taken arrested," said Chinmoy Biswal, Deputy Commissioner of Police, South-East. The accused used to stay in the same building with his aunt and worked at a factory in Faridabad.
In another incident reported from Pandav Nagar area, three men were arrested for raping a woman. The incident occurred on January 31 but the girl reported the matter to the police on February 5 following which the arrests were made by the police.
