The 'Pad Man Challenge' has been in the news for a while now. It started during promotion of the movie about an initiative started off by Arunachalam Muruganantham, on whom the upcoming film Pad Man is based.

The film stars Akshay Kumar, Radhika Apte and Sonam Kapoor, and talks about the taboo around sanitary pads in society.

The Pad Man Challenge is basically a promotional tool where celebrities post a picture of themselves holding a sanitary pad, and write a message urging people to not be coy about this issue of menstrual hygiene. One further has to tag a few other people to take on this challenge.

The Pad Man Challenge has caught on like wild fire with celebrities attempting it left, right and centre.

On Tuesday, Indian cricket team head coach Ravi Shastri too took up the challenge. He was asked to attempt it by the lead star of Pad Man - Akshay Kumar.

"Yes, it’s a Pad in my hand. Happy to support rockstar @akshaykumar for breaking the taboo and initiating an open conversation. AK, am sure no ball is going to hit PAD (MAN). #PadManChallenge Here I challenge @imVkohli @SinghaniaGautam @Leander," wrote Ravi on his official Twitter account.

Ravi has nominated Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli, tennis legend Leander Paes and industrialist Gautam Singhania to attempt this challenge.

As noble as Ravi's gesture of taking up the Pad Man Challenge was, it didn't spare him from getting trolled on social media. The Mumbaikar isn't really a fan favourite considering he was the one who replaced Anil Kumble as head coach of the Indian cricket team.

Ravi isn't the first sports celebrity to attempt the Pad Man Challenge. Badminton ace PV Sindhu also did it on Monday. She was nominated by Deepika Padukone to do so. "Thank you for tagging me @deepikapadukone ! Yes, that’s a Pad in my hand. Periods are normal. Just another day…#PadManChallenge," Sindhu wrote in her Instagram post.
