MS Dhoni is all set to return to Chennai Super Kings for next year's Indian Premier League. The IPL Governing Council has given teams options which could allow them to retain as many as five of their players.

Which means that CSK fans can expect to see MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina return to the team's ranks for IPL 2018. The players who played for Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royal respectively in IPL 2015 and who were part of Rising Pune Supergiants and Gujarat Lions squads in IPL 2017, will be part of the pool available to CSK and RR for retention or Right to Match, decided the IPL Governing Council.

The teams will be allowed to buy back five players with options of two retentions and three Right to Match or three retentions and two Right to Match.

If a team does not wish to retain any player, it will still have the option of three Right to Match. However, it was decided not more than three Indian and two foreign players can be retained by a franchise.

The IPL GC meeting, which was also attended by the Committee of Administrators discussed, among other aspects, the total purse money each franchise can spend .

"What has been decided in the meeting was that the franchises can retain three players and two Right to Match or two retentions and three Right to Match," said one of the members who attended the meeting.

The governing council will send these options to the franchises and they will decide which of the two options to accept. It was also decided to increase the total purse of each franchise from Rs 66 crore to Rs 80 crore. The salary cap has also been increased for uncapped players.
