Batsman to turn PadMan: Virat Kohli nominated by coach Ravi Shastri to take up 'PadManChallenge'

Team India caoch Ravi Shastri, on Tuesday, joined the PadMan Challenge by posing with a sanitary pad.

Virat Kohli is force of destruction with a cricket bat in his hands but the Indian skipper could soon be a force of awareness holding a sanitary pad. Kohli has been challenged for the "PadManChallenge" by Team India coach Ravi Shastri. 

The PadMan challenge is related to the upcoming film 'PadMan' starring Akshay Kumar, Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte. The movie is based on the real-life story of Arunachalam Muruganantham, a social entrepreneur who invented the machine for manufacturing sanitary pads at an affordable price. 

The "PadMan Challenge" aims to create awareness about women's being on period and usage of sanitary pads. The topic is still generally considered a taboo  in India and the challenge is an attempt to break these shackles and raise awareness. 

In the challenge, one asks the other click a photo with a sanitary pad and post it online while tagging other people who you want to take up the challenge next. 

India coach Ravi Shastri, on Tuesday, joined the PadMan Challenge by posing with a sanitary pad. He posted the the picture on his Twitter account and then challenged Kohli, Tennis star Leander Paes and businessman Gautam Singhania. 

Shastri posted, "Yes, it's a Pad in my hand. Happy to support rockstar @akshaykumar for breaking the taboo and initiating an open conversation. AK, am sure no ball is going to hit PAD (MAN). #PadManChallenge Here I challenge @imVkohli @SinghaniaGautam @Leander".

2016 Rio Olympic Silver medalist PV Sindhu has also taken the challenge. She uploaded a picture on Instagram with her holding a sanitary pad. The image captioned, "Thank you for tagging me Deepika Padukone! Yes, that's a pad in my hand. Periods are normal. Just another day...#PadManChallenge."

Shastri and Kohli are currently in South Africa for a two-month long tour.
