Yamaha Motor India recalls 23,897 units of FZ 25, Fazer 25

Yamaha Motor India Pvt Ltd said it is recalling 23,897 units of two motorcycle models -- Yamaha FZ 25 and Yamaha Fazer 25 -- in India to rectify issue related to head cover bolt loosening.

Yamaha Motor India Pvt Ltd said it is recalling 23,897 units of two motorcycle models -- Yamaha FZ 25 and Yamaha Fazer 25 -- in India to rectify issue related to head cover bolt loosening.

The recall, with immediate effect, will cover units of the two models manufactured from January 2017, the company said. 

The exercise covers 21,640 units of FZ 25 and 2,257 units of Fazer 25, it added.

"The affected motorcycles will be repaired free of cost at any of the Yamaha authorised dealers and the owners will be contacted individually," the company said.

Yamaha is working closely with the dealer partners to ensure the repair experience is as convenient and efficient as possible, it added.

Earlier last year, Japan’s Yamaha Motor will pump in Rs 800 crore into its Indian business for setting up manufacturing facility, services and marketing of its motorcycles in the country.

This comes as local unit Yamaha India undertakes yet another revamp through which it is changing its complete product offering, getting rid of loss-making dealers and getting new ones on board, opening company owned outlets across major metros and setting up an additional manufacturing facility in the country.

Tsutomu Mabuchi, chief executive officer and managing director, Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt Ltd, said, “This is our goal, our target, our dream. We aim to have a 10% market share by 2010 and will break even before that.”

Yamaha’s current market share is 2.5% although in the premium category is commands a 20% market share, which seems to be getting boosted by its recent launch —- YZR15.

It is launching another bike —- FZ16 —- next week, which will be priced around Rs 65,000 and two more products are lined for next year.

“We are focusing on establishing a good dealer network which will help with a deeper mass penetration also. We are replacing loss-making dealers with new ones and from the current 300, the target is to have 450 dealers nationwide as well as 1,500 other Yamaha points,” said Pankaj Dubey, national business head, and division head sales and marketing. The performance of the Yamaha India has been disappointing with the business reporting losses and the Japanese parent company having to come to its rescue.
