The much awaited film of 2017 has ended up being the most controversial film of the year. Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus which was meant to release on December 1 has been stalled.

But now lead actor Shahid Kapoor has given us hope about the film's release date being revealed soon. At the red carpet of Zee Cine Awards 2018, Shahid said he is hopeful about the release of the film soon.

He said, "I am sure we will have clarity by the end of this year about when the film is releasing. But we want it to release as soon as possible" before adding that he is excited to be a part of such a "memorable" film like "Padmavati".

The epic period drama is yet to receive certification from CBFC after several states put a ban on the film following protests by Rajput Karni Sena accused Bhansali of "distorting historical facts" in the movie. To add to the trouble for the film, a complaint was also filed against the director for screening the film for three journalists -- Rajat Sharma, Arnab Goswami, and Ved Pratap Vaidik -- before showing the film to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), a violation of section 7 (1) of the cinematography act.

While speaking to media at Zee Cine Awards 2017, Kapoor also said Padmavati row hasn't affect his career. Shahid Kapoor said, "Of course, there has been the whole controversy around 'Padmavati' but it is such a special film. When I look back at this year, it has been one of the most exciting years in my career - to be doing 'Padmavati', to be a part of a film which I really believe is going to be historic and remembered, if I may say so,"

He added, "That's how I feel about it. So, I am very happy with this year. The wait is killing me. I am dying for the film to come out,"

The film stars Deepika Padukone in the lead role of Rani Padmavati.

Ranveer Singh will be seen as the antagonist for the first time in the role of Sultan Alauddin Khilj and Shahid Kapoor as Maharawal Ratan Singh (Rani Padmavati's husband).

While the film industry across India supported team Padmavati, the makers' struggles to release the film isn't over yet.
