Karan Johar’s dream of directing Sridevi remains unfulfilled

Sridevi, who was one of Bollywood’s first female superstars, breathed her last on February 24. Twenty five years ago, Sridevi had acted in Gumrah, which was her only project with Yash Johar’s Dharma Productions. The movie saw her opposite Sanjay Dutt.

After his dad passed away in 2004, Karan Johar took up the reins of the production house. The filmmaker, who has worked with the who’s who of the industry, nurtured a dream of directing a film with Sridevi as the lead someday. He will, however, be launching her daughter Janhvi in Dhadak, which also stars Shahid Kapoor’s brother Ishaan.

Recently, when we met the filmmaker, we had asked him to name that one person he was keen to make a film with. And he had said, “It has to be Sridevi, for sure! I have wanted to do a movie with her for the longest time. I think she’s magic on screen. There’s a certain aura about her that nobody else can replicate. I have lived with this dream for years.”

KJo had discussed a project with Sridevi and she had also given her nod to it.

The Bollywood diva had green-lit Abhishek Varman’s period saga Shiddat, which was to be produced under Karan’s banner. However, Karan was very keen to direct her.  He had told us in our earlier interview, “I wish to make a film with her, which I want to direct.”

But now with Sridevi no more, Karan’s dream will unfortunately remain just that... an unfulfilled dream.
