Lipstick Under My Burkha was in the news for a while ever since the CBFC denied certification to the film for being “too lady-oriented.” However, after a long fight with the Censor Board, the film will now release on July 28. Ekta Kapoor is going to help producer Prakash Jha to promote the film and make people aware about it before it's release.
Prakash Jha met Ekta Kapoor and told Mumbai Mirror, "Ekta has done path-breaking work with her women characters. She’s inverted the power structure on television, making women characters the epicentre of the power game. She has a strong feminist pulse and I was keen to know what she felt about our film. She told me she wanted to present it through her studio and I thought it would be fantastic for the film."
On this, Ekta on her part told the tabloid, "Not only was I totally blown away by the content but also felt that it showcased a great combination of accountability and entertainment.” She further added, “Lipstick Under My Burkha signifies a rebellion of the mind and is a film that celebrates women and their sexuality. I believe that this is a story that needs to be told and wanted to put all my muscle behind a film like this."
Featuring Konkona Sen Sharma, Ratna Pathak Shah, Aahana Kumra and Plabita Borthakur, the film is about four small-town Indian women between the ages of 18 to 55 -a burkha-clad college girl, a young beautician, a mother-of-three and an ageing widow, who decide to assert their personal and sexual rights. Lipstick Under My Burkha will hit the theatres on July 28.
