Yeddyurappa has said he will fortify his defences during his stay in Delhi. He is most likely to meet home minister P Chidambaram to explain his position. The meeting assumes significance following the minister ticking the state government and reminding it of its duty to maintain law and order after the BJP rank and file took to the streets in Karnataka protesting against the governor’s move.
With the theatre of political war shifting to Delhi, more fireworks are expected in the coming days as the BJP has already locked horns with the Centre on the Kashmir ekta yatra.
The twin issues have deflected public attention from the anti-corruption onslaught launched by the BJP-led opposition against the UPA government in which Bhardwaj is being alleged by the saffron party to have played a role.
Yeddyurappa may also meet president Pratibha Patil along with senior BJP leaders and party MPs from Karnataka. His air-dashing to Delhi is being seen as a move to counter any attempt by the Centre to impose president’s rule in the state.
Well-placed BJP sources have not ruled out the possibility of exploring a legal angle to the governor vs CM battle. Yeddyurappa had stated before emplaning for Delhi at Bengaluru that he would fight the battle legally and politically.
To prepare his defences Yeddyurappa has denied having used any “wrong words” against the governor. He has reacted to the governor’s charge, saying “Ulta chor kotwal ko daante.”
