Yeddy's surgery temporarily halts spat with BJP

There was a brief reprieve in the infighting within the BJP as former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa underwent cataract surgery on Friday and was prescribed three days’ rest.

Narayana Netralaya chairman and managing director, Dr K Bhujang Shetty, performed the surgery and Yeddyurappa was discharged later in the day. “We had prepared Yeddyurappa for the surgery. An intraocular lens was implanted in his left eye. We have advised him three days’ rest,” said Dr Shetty.

Yeddyurappa went home after the surgery and has decided not to venture out or attend programmes over the next three days. Meanwhile, excise minister and Yeddyurappa confidant, MP Renukacharya, said Yeddyurappa was hurt due to the recent developments in the BJP and this led to the former CM’s public outburst, he said.

“He will not ditch the party. In fact, he is responsible for the BJP coming to power in Karnataka. However, some backbiting hurt his sentiments and hence he reacted in such a way,” added Renukacharya.

Commenting on the Thursday’s spat between Yeddyurappa and BJP state party president KS Eshwarappa, Renukacharya said “the BJP is a family and there are problems in every family.”
“Though there are differences of opinion between the two leaders, it’s not serious as being portrayed,” he added. There is no rift in the BJP and the party will give good governance till the end of its term in power, he said, adding that the BJP will be re-elected in the next assembly election.
