Located in a quiet area, AMCO Layout has been in existence for over 35 years. But it looks like a colony which is yet to come up.
For one thing, there is no good road to connect residents to the main road. Also there is no underground drain. Because of this, the sewage water of the locality gets mixed with storm water drain raising an unbearable stink.

Situated in Kodigehalli, this layout has about 600 to 700 houses. The residents have been regularly paying taxes and betterment charges. But so far, they have not seen much improvement in amenities. The house owners of the extension of the layout have worse things to complain about.

BV Srinivas, a civil engineer says, “My house is next to the storm water drain. Since sewage water gets mixed with storm water, the entire area stinks. The storm drain is now a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

“It’s dangerous for children to play around the drain which has no fencing. As mosquitoes breed here, children often fall ill. I’ve been staying here for 10 years and despite complaints, the officials have not taken any remedial measures so far.”

The local residents’ welfare association had contacted corporator Ashwath Narayan Gowda for help. He gave promises but never acted.

Bhanu Prasad, another resident, says: “Local people treat this area as a dump yard. They sometimes dump carcasses of cattle here and the stink is unbearable. Two years ago, the sewage water was treated and used for gardening purpose but all of a sudden even that was stopped. The road is in a bad shape. During monsoon, it becomes slushy. For old people, walking on this stretch becomes risky then.”

“We have asked for a good road but the people in charge say they will start the work only after the underground drain is constructed. Otherwise, the road will have to be dug up again. Now we have asked for the underground drain but so far there is no response,” said Veeregowda, another resident.

The residents have sent several complaints to the Lake Development Authority about sewage water flowing into Hebbal Lake. The authorities have not acted so far.

There is also an ongoing dispute between the residents and the military authorities. Commuters want to use the military land to reach Kodigehalli main road instead of using the clogged Kodigehalli Gate. But the authorities have to follow rules.
