A 46-year-old woman, Rajamma, was stabbed to death by five of her relatives at Mico Layout on Saturday night after an argument over property.

Rajamma died after she was stabbed in the stomach multiple times and her throat was slit. She was staying in a building built by her husband Rami Reddy, with Reddy’s first wife Jayamma and her sons Lokesh, Gurumurthy, Ramesh and Suneel.

Three years ago, after Reddy’s death, the distribution of seven apartments located in the building was done, but Jayamma and her sons were not happy with it.

Rajamma was living with her only daughter in one of the apartments in the building. After Reddy’s death, Jayamma and her sons asked Rajamma to share the property belonging to her or pay them Rs10 lakh, which was reduced to Rs3 lakh after the intervention by some relatives. Rajamma agreed to pay the amount.

On Saturday around 10pm, Jayamma and her sons came to Rajamma’s house and demanded her to pay Rs3 lakh immediately. Rajamma reportedly expressed inability to pay the amount so fast. At that point, all five of them attacked Rajamma, stabbed her and slit her throat before fleeing to Salem, police said.

A team headed by inspector BS Mohan Kumar took the accused into custody.

The body was handed over to the family after postmortem. A case has been registered at Mico Layout police station.
