Super, Upendra’s directorial venture after 10 years, is a huge crowd-puller. The movie created a craze on the first day of its release with followers of the  star going bonkers.

The festive mood was palpable throughout the city as the followers of Upendra greeted Super by distributing biryani and sweets.

Bursting of crackers added to the excitement. Theatres were decorated with Uppi’s banners and cut-outs.

The movie was released in over 30 theatres in the city. Theatres were seen displaying ‘houseful’ board for the next three days, validating the fact that the movie was a total sell out. Tickets were not available even in theatres inside malls.

Many fans purchased tickets from the black market. Market insiders confirmed that Super had more than 1,500 people watching the movie in each show.

“I paid Rs300 for a second class ticket, but I am happy that the film is good and my money has not been wasted,” said Shankar, a fan, excited after watching the movie ‘first day, first show’.

“It is true that many of our fans did not get the tickets to watch the movie. The theatres are displaying ‘houseful’ boards for the next three days. We also noticed that tickets were being sold in black. Immediately, we brought this to the notice of theatre manager and tried to stop this,” said some  fans who were unable to watch the movie.

In many theatres, fans forcibly entered the theatres without tickets. Fans’ associations present in theatre premises, with the help of police, brought the people without tickets out of the theatre.
Fans, who expected Uppi creativity to continue in Super, were not left disappointed.

Uppi is considered one of the most intensive actors in the Kannada film industry. “His direction gives us a lot of suspense and thrilling scenes. He is the one who can compete with the other languages films,” said members of Akilla Karnataka Supet Star Abhimanigala Sangha.

“All the songs are good. Even though I couldn’t understand the story, I enjoyed every moment of the film. Uppi, as a director, has done an excellent job. I wish to watch the film tomorrow again to understand the story,” said Sreeprada, an Uppi fan.

Fans at Sagar theatre distributed biryani and burst crackers. “If Uppi was with us for five minutes, all the fans would have gone crazy. There is no end to express our feelings for him,” said Harish, president of the Sangha.

Fans sported wigs like their favourite star to match the looks of Uppi in Super. They also reproduced dialogues of the move after the show.

The diehard fans of Upendra also promoted the movie in their own ways. Autorickshaw drivers went on a procession across the city.
