Chief minister BS Yeddyurappa’s decision not to take the test of truth in front of the presiding deity of this temple town has brought down politico-religious heat to some extent.

But BJP and JD(S) are preparing for a showdown on Monday as every worker and sympathiser worth his salt is headed towards the holy place.
JD(S) will hold a public meeting at Ujire, 10km from the temple town.

“We are expecting over 5,000 workers and leaders to converge here from all parts of the state, particularly from Bangalore and Mangalore. Our leader HD Kumaraswamy will reveal all explosive material about the chief minister  which he was holding back till now. This will shake the BJP government,” said MB Sadashiva, Dakshina Kannada district president of JD(S).

“If Yeddyurappa thinks he has played it safe by backing out from the test of truth, he is grossly mistaken. JD(S) is determined to make the best use of this opportunity and bare it all,” said MG Hegde, state general secretary.

Also on Monday, former prime minister HD Devegowda plans to stage a dharna in front of the official residence of Yeddyurappa. But the city police denied him permission for the sit-in.

However, the BJP appears to be calm. It will be restricting itself to minimal activity on Dharmasthala on Monday by confining to the chief minister’s official engagements in Kukke Subramanya about 40 km from Dharmasthala.

Nevertheless, a huge contingent of BJP workers, district- and taluk-level leaders have converged in Dharmasthala and they will pour in when CM visits the temple. It may even create a law and order problem.

“If they want that kind of showdown, we will not disappoint them. But the general instruction given to the party workers is to maintain peace,” said Hegde.

BJP has issued instructions to its workers to make the party’s presence felt in the temple town.
