A 23-year-old software engineer, Tushar Bhatia, allegedly committed suicide by jumping off his office terrace on Friday. Bhatia worked for Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) in Electronic City II Phase, Hosur Road. He was a resident of Marathahalli.

The police said Tushar had high blood pressure, diabetes, renal problems and had an urinary infection. He was under medication for the past two years. He was depressed about his health-related issues and decided to take the extreme step as a result.

On Friday, Tushar did not display any abnormal behaviour and he spoke to several of his colleagues, who did not suspect anything amiss. At 1.30pm, he went to the ninth floor and jumped from the terrace passage. Some of Tushar’s colleagues who were on the ground floor saw him jump and many others rushed out of the office on hearing a sound.

Tushar had returned from Mumbai two days ago after a 15-day break, said the police. The police are trying to locate Tushar’s roommate. They have found three books, including diary in Tushar’s room. They’re scanning the diary to check whether he had written about his ailments. Tushar’s cellphone is also being checked for possible leads. “We are investigating all possible angles and questioning some of his colleagues,” said deputy commissioner of police (south-east) PS Harsha.

The body has been shifted to Victoria Hospital for postmortem, which will be conducted on Saturday. His parents have been informed about the incident and they are expected to arrive by Friday midnight, said the police.
