Supernumerary seats in round 2, too

The 5% supernumerary quota seats, given free to poor meritorious students in all engineering colleges under a directive from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), will be available even in the second round of ongoing engineering counselling of the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA).

According to statistics available with the KEA, about 4,173 students whose annual family income is within Rs2.5 lakh, can get seats under the supernumerary quota.

In the first round counselling, about 3,000 students got seats under the quota and the vacant seats will be filled in the second round of counselling. The first round counselling is under way.

“If any seats under supernumerary quota are left vacant they will be offered to eligible students in the second round counselling,” confirmed higher education minister VS Acharya.

Governor gives nod to folk university

Governor HR Bhardwaj has, in the meantime, approved the state government’s decision to set up a folk university in Haveri district.

A cabinet meeting had recently decided to set up the folk university and the decision had been sent to the governor for his approval.

The varsity, whose vice-chancellor will be appointed next month, will offer diploma, postgraduate and PhD courses.
