In a yet another case of drowning, a 20-year-old ITI student met a watery grave in Bilwardhalli Lake on Wednesday. This is the fourth such incident involving city students this month.

The incident occurred around 12.30 pm, but parents of the deceased registered a case only in the evening. Bannerghatta police, under whose jurisdiction the incident occurred, reached the lake after the case was reported on a television channel.

By then, the parents had shifted the body from the spot. The deceased, identified as Arun Kumar, was a first-year ITI student of loyola industrial training centre on Bannerghatta road.

He, along with three of his classmates, went to swim in the lake after the principal sent the students back for reaching late. Local residents fished out the body around 1 pm, police said.

Ramu, Pradeep and Karthik, who had accompanied Arun to the lake, first approached the college officials before informing the parents of the deceased. Arun’s father Prathiban, a native of Tamil Nadu, said he did not immediately file a case as he was unaware of the procedure.

Parents had already shifted the body to Victoria Hospital when police reached Bilwardhalli Lake. Prathiban registered a case in Bannerghatta police station after being told to do so by the hospital authorities.

Earlier, friends and relatives of Arun ransacked the college and staged a protest holding the principal responsible. College officials filed a complaint against Arun’s relatives for damaging their property, in Hulimavu police station, under whose jurisdiction the institute is located.
