Stage set for R-Day fete at Parade Ground in Bangalore

The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and city police have made elaborate security arrangements for the 61st Republic Day celebration to be held at the Field Marshal Manekshaw Parade Ground, said BBMP commissioner Siddaiah on Monday.

He said 48 teams, including police personnel, Scouts and Guides, National Cadet Corps, Seva Dal and about 1,500 students from several schools will participate in the march past. About 2,000 children are expected to take part in the cultural programmes.

“The cultural programmes include equestrian show, ‘mallakamba’ and air show. Children have been practising for the march past and cultural programmes from Friday. We have arranged transport facility for all the children, besides making necessary food arrangements for them,” Siddaiah said.

Siddaiah said besides quick response teams, the BBMP had also formed a medical preparedness squad. As many as 12 ambulances along with three fire tenders will be on the spot. A mass casualty management with an eight-bed hospital vehicle will also be on the spot.

He said that 1,200 beds have been reserved in 25 hospitals.
The ground had been levelled, stage was prepared, barricades installed and seating arrangements for VIPs and general public had been taken up, said Siddaiah. He said seating arrangements had been according to protocol.

“While the National Flag will be hoisted by governor HR Bhardwaj at 9 am, Indian Air Force helicopters will shower flowers and later the governor will take the guard of honour,” he said.

The BBMP commissioner also said that the police had made bandobast at the grounds.

As many as 26 CCTV cameras have been installed in the grounds. There will also be 23 door-frame metal detectors to screen people at the venue, said Suneel Kumar, additional commissioner of police (Law and Order).

Kumar said that about 2,000 police personnel, including eight deputy commissioners of police, 15 assistant commissioners of police, 32 inspectors, 100 sub-inspectors and 10 Karnataka State Reserve Police platoons would be deputed on the occasion.

Traffic diversion here

>    Traffic will be diverted from 8.30 am to 10.30 am from BRV Junction to Kamaraj Road (KR Road) Junction (both directions) on Cubbon Road.

>    Vehicles coming from CTO Circle towards Manipal Centre on Cubbon Road will take left turn on Central Street at BRV Junction and then move towards Central Street Junction to take a right turn to take Infantry Road, Safina Plaza and then take a left turn to enter Main Guard Road towards Allies Circle, KR Road and Dickenson Road Junction. Vehicles from there can take right turn to enter KR Road to take a left turn and enter Cubbon Road to reach Manipal Centre Junction.

>    Vehicles coming from Manipal Junction towards CTO Junction on Cubbon Road will have to take left turn at KR Road Junction to go towards Cauvery Art and Crafts Circle Junction on MG Road, take right turn to reach Anil Kumble Circle and then another right turn to reach BRV Junction and turn left to reach CTO Circle.

Vehicles coming from Anil Kumble Circle towards Cubbon Road will go straight on Central Street Junction, take right turn to enter Infantry Road and move towards Safina Plaza and take a left turn to enter Main Guard Road then move towards Allies Circle, Dispensary Road, KR Road and Dickenson Road Junction. From there, motorists can take a right turn at KR Road Junction, turn left to reach Cubbon Road and then towards Manipal Centre Junction.

>    Vehicles coming from Cauvery Arts and Craft Circle on MG Road going towards Cubbon Road and KR Road Junction can go straight on MG Road towards Anil Kumble Junction and take a right turn to reach BRV Junction, from where they have to take a left turn to reach CTO Circle and further.
