Family denies any love angle to the relationship
BANGALORE: Geetha's family did not find anything odd when her colleague, 24-year-old Shakir Hussein, came visiting at 9.30 pm on Tuesday to their house in Subash layout in KG Halli in the city. But within 15 minutes Koteswari had to call her neighbours to break open her daughter's room to find both lying dead in a pool of blood.
Shakir had, unable to bear the fact that the woman he loved had got engaged to another man, allegedly slit the throat of the 25-year-old Geetha and then committed suicide. Shakir had used a knife to slit Geetha's throat and used the same knife to slit his own throat.
Shakir, a native of Guntur in Andhra Pradesh, and Geetha, a native of Chitradurga, were working in Bajaj Allianz in Shantinagar for the past two years. Shakir befriended Geetha and the two were close. Shakir, a resident of Govindapura in Bangalore, used to frequent Geetha's house.
Geetha, daughter of Koteswari, had lost her father as a child. She was staying with her mother and two brothers on the first floor of a house in Subash Layout in HRBS Layout. Geetha and Shakir knew each other for one year and six months. Police said that recently, Koteswari had got Geetha engaged to a youth from Chitradurga. She was to get married in November. Shakir, who was unaware of the fact, was informed about it by a common friend recently.
At 9.30 pm on Tuesday, Hussein went as usual to Geetha's house. Koteswari was watching television and her brother was standing on the balcony. Hussein took Geetha to her bedroom on the pretext of talking to her and locked the room. Soon, Koteswari heard loud screams from the room. "The two were quarrelling and he repeatedly said that she had duped him. The mother then heard Geetha screaming and shouting for help. The mother could not open the door as it was locked,"' said a police officer.
Koteswari informed the neighbours who broke open the door and found the two lying in a pool of blood. Police officers said that Shakir had left a suicide note in his trouser pocket, which said: "She was in a relationship with me. But, she cheated me and was to get married to someone else. I could not bear this. She does not deserve to live. This is the reason for me to kill her and myself."
Meanwhile, the family denied that the two had an affair and said that Geetha had never mentioned this. "She had willingly got engaged to the person in Chitradurga," her mother said.
