Speeding BMTC bus mows down woman scooterist

The deceased has been identified as H Roopa, a resident of Dasarahalli. She was an accountant with a private company on MG Road.

Yet another Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus, route no 252, turned killer when it crushed a 27-year-old woman to death in Dasarahalli, Peenya on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as H Roopa, a resident of Dasarahalli. She was an accountant with a private company on MG Road.

The incident occurred around 8.30 am in front of the Wipro office. The speeding BMTC bus, while attempting to overtake Roopa’s scooter, hit the two-wheeler from behind. Roopa, who was on her way to office, lost her balance and fell on the road. She came under the bus and died on the spot.

The bus driver fled the spot, leaving the passengers on the spot. The bus was going towards Kempegowda bus station in Majestic from Peenya. “Roopa was on the extreme left of the road. There was a lot of space available between the median and her scooter.

But the bus driver was careless and hit the scooter,” said a witness.

Roopa was a BCom graduate and was working for the past five years, police said. She was the youngest daughter of Hanumanthappa, a private company employee. She was living with her parents and two sisters.

The body was handed over to the family after post-mortem at MS Ramaiah Hospital. A case has been registered in Peenya traffic police station. Investigation is on.

On August 26, a BMTC bus, reportedly driver by an epileptic, crushed two pedestrians to death and injured another in NR Colony.

Private firm manager killed
In another accident, a 26-year-old manager in a private company was killed after his car hit a cab on Inner Ring Road near Domlur, in the wee hours of Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Gurunath, a resident of BDA Complex near Koramangala. The incident occurred around 1.30 am, when Gurunath lost control over his car and traversed the median to bump into a travel agency cab on the other lane.

Gurunath sustained serious injuries and died on the spot. The cab driver Prakash, 32, and two others in the car sustained injuries and are undergoing treatment at Manipal Hospital.

Prakash’s condition is reported to be critical, police said.
The two others injured in the accident have been identified as friends Shubhang, 24, and Dolsi 23, both residents of BTM Layout.

Dolsi sustained injuries on her hand, while Shubhang on shoulder.

In his complaint, Shubhang stated that the incident occurred when he and Dolsi were on their way to Yeshwantpur railway station to receive a friend who was coming from Kolkata.

Gurunath was working as a manager in a company owned by his father. He was the son of Sheshadri and Vasundara. He was living with his parents and sister. The body was handed over to the family after post-mortem.

A case has been registered in Adugodi traffic police
station.
