South India tops both ICSE and ISC exams

With overall pass percentages of 99.72% and 98.28%, respectively. Girls outshine boys once again.

Southern Region was at the summit on Tuesday when the results of the Class X and Class XII boards exams conducted by Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) were announced on the Internet. Girls outperformed boys once again with better pass percentages.

The southern region secured the best pass percentages, both in the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) (Class X) examination and Indian School Certificate (ISC) (Class XII) examination.

For a record, Karnataka girls secured a cent percent pass percentage in ICSE, while the boys scored 99.95% taking the overall pass percentage of the state to 99.97%, up by 0.03% from last year. As many as 3,718 girls took up the exam in the state.
In ISC, the overall pass percentage in the state was 98.31%, down by 1.16% from last year. Here too, girls performed better than boys.

In ISC, the pass percentage of girls was 99.02%, while it 97.59% for boys. Of the many schools in Bangalore that managed to secure 100% results are Bishop Cotton Boys' School, Bishop Cotton Girls' School, St John's High School and Sri Kumaran Public School. “According to me, this year's results are the best.

This, despite the papers being as difficult as they had always been,” said Princess Franklin, principal of St John's. She said the ISC Commerce paper, which the students found quite tough, brought down the pass percentage of students.
“The paper and evaluation were equally tough,” she added. John K Zachariah. principal of Bishop Cotton Boys’ School, was visibly thrilled with the results. “Our teachers felt that the results are much better than the previous year’s.”

Christopher Thambidoorai, head of the Department of Mathematics, echoed similar views.

Overall performance
Overall too, girls outshined boys with their pass percentage in Class 10 reaching 99.15%. Boys secured 98.19%. The overall pass percentage was 97.24% (up by 0.13% from last year). In ICSE, the overall pass percentage was 98.61%, which was best in the Southern Region (99.72%), followed by the West-99.63%.
The Southern Region also registered the best pass percentage in Class 12 with 98.28%, followed by the Western Region with 97.80%. The pass rate of students in Class 12 was 97.24%, up by 0.13% from last year. The pass rate of girls was 98.40%, while it was 96.30% for the boys.
As many as 57,487 candidates took up the Class 12 ISC examination nationwide and abroad, while 1,22,347 students appeared for the ICSE.
